In-beam spectroscopy in the actinide region using an evaporation residue detector*
نویسنده
چکیده
The spectroscopy of trans-lead nuclei, e.g. actinide nuclei, produced in fusion evaporation reactions is hampered by the presence of a large fission background. A “filter” or “tag” is required to separate the γ rays of the evaporation residues from those of the fission products and other sources of background. There are several, complementary approaches to meet this requirement, including the direct detection of the evaporation residues by time-of-flight and pulse height with a dedicated detection system.

Investigation of surface and buildup region doses for 6 MV high energy photon beams in the presence of a thermoplastic mask
Background: The accuracy and the reproducibility of radiotherapy can be provided by using immobilization devices such as thermoplastic masks. In head and neck cancer radiotherapy, the patients are mostly immobilized by using thermoplastic masks. In this study, the effect of the thermoplastic mask to the surface and buildup region doses was investigated by using Markus parallel plate ion chamber...
متن کاملStrongly Enhanced Low Energy α-Particle Decay in Heavy Actinide Nuclei and Long-Lived Superdeformed and Hyperdeformed Isomeric States
Relatively low energy and very enhanced α-particle groups have been observed in various actinide fractions produced via secondary reactions in a CERN W target which had been irradiated with 24-GeV protons. In particular, 5.14, 5.27 and 5.53 MeV α-particle groups with corresponding half-lives of 3.8±1.0 y, 625±84 d and 26±7 d, have been seen in Bk, Es and Lr-No sources, respectively. The measure...
متن کاملGamma-Ray Spectroscopy of Nuclei Along the Z=115 Decay Chain
During the past decade correlated α-decay chains have been observed in several independent experiments using Ca-induced fusion-evaporation reactions on actinide targets [1]. These are interpreted to originate from the production of isotopes with proton numbers Z = 113-118. In a recent experiment at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH in Darmstadt, Germany, using the reaction ...
متن کاملModified Multi-level Residue Harmonic Balance Method for Solving Nonlinear Vibration Problem of Beam Resting on Nonlinear Elastic Foundation
Nonlinear vibration behavior of beam is an important issue of structural engineering. In this study, a mathematical modeling of a forced nonlinear vibration of Euler-Bernoulli beam resting on nonlinear elastic foundation is presented. The nonlinear vibration behavior of the beam is investigated by using a modified multi-level residue harmonic balance method. The main advantage of the method is ...
متن کامل‘‘HERCULES’’: Design, instrumentation, and performance characteristics of a high-efficiency evaporation-residue counter under a lot of elastic scattering for spectroscopic studies with Gammasphere
A high-efficiency evaporation-residue counter (named HERCULES) has been designed and constructed. It consists of 64 thin fast-plastic scintillators arranged in four rings covering an angular range of 3.1–19:1 at 30.9 cm from the target. The device design has been optimized for use with GAMMASPHERE. Evaporation residues are well separated from elastic scattering, fission events, and other undesi...
